人体的任何部位，从头到脚，都可能是性恋物癖的对象——头发、耳朵、眼睛、鼻子、肩膀、手臂、手与手指、乳房、腹部、性器官、臀部、腿、双足以及许多大大小小的身体其它部位。在一些情形下，甚至身体畸形，像肥胖，也会成为基本的性刺激物。甚至，可能存在对身体畸形部位甚或丧失的身体部位有恋物兴趣——驼背、甲状腺肿、截肢等等。进一步的可能是，每一种人类的私密活动，像撒尿和排便也会对恋物癖者产生性唤起作用。对身着湿衣服、面具、制服、尿布和拌成婴儿等也可能有性唤起作用。最后，当恋物对象是无生命的物体的时候，迷恋的对象实际上不胜枚举。根本上来说，任何东西都会成为恋物癖的痴迷焦点——像帽子、手套、鞋和内衣等衣物，或像毛皮、皮革、橡胶、丝绸等材料，或像马鞍、拐杖、鞭子、手铐等工具，以及太多太多的举不胜举的物品。对一些人来说，列举实际存在的不胜枚举的和潜在的恋物癖也许是一种令人感到有趣的消遣活动，不过这终归是一项愚蠢的冒险计划。

然而，不管这些限制条件怎样，我们提供以下简短而并不完整的恋物癖一览表，它只是这同一门基础课程的另一个列表：在人类，性行为不是和不可能是始终如一的。这些恋物癖的性潜能由如此多样的心理社会影响所塑造，因为心理社会影响必然要在多种多样的方式中表现出来。正如我们在此可以见到的一样，深入观察一下即可知道，甚至像恋物癖这样单纯的“性副态（paraphilia）”也会分为具有不同意义的无数个亚型。

Any part of the human body, from head to toe, can be the object of erotic fetishism - the hair, the ears, the eyes, the nose, the neck, the shoulders, the arms, hands and fingers, the breasts, the stomach, the sex organs, the buttocks, the legs, the feet and many other large and small portions of the body. In some cases, even a physical deformation like obesity provides the essential stimulant. Indeed, there may be a fetishistic interest in misshapen or even missing body parts – a hump, a goiter, or an amputation. It is further possible that very private human activities like urination and defecation become erotically arousing to a fetishist. This may also be true for wearing wet clothes, or masks, or uniforms, or diapers and pretending to be a baby. Finally, when it comes to inanimate objects, the possibilities are virtually endless. Anything at all can become the focus of fetishism – clothing like hats, gloves, shoes, and underwear, or materials like fur, leather, latex, and silk, or instruments like saddles, canes, whips, handcuffs, and many, far too many more. Making a list of the innumerable actual and potential fetishisms may be an amusing pastime for some people, but ultimately it is a ludicrous enterprise.
Nevertheless, in spite of these reservations, we offer the following short and very incomplete list simply as another illustration of the same basic lesson: In humans, sexual behavior is not and cannot be uniform. Their erotic potential is shaped by so many different psychosocial influences that it cannot but find expression in a great variety of ways. As we can see here, upon closer inspection, even a single “paraphilia” like fetishism breaks down into numerous subcategories of different significance.
