crime)”。
assault)。

Sexual Violence: Rape: Male Victims:
Introduction 2
|
Humiliating the victim has always been, and still is, the purpose of male rape. Indeed, paradoxically, in some cases it is a form of
anti-gay violence, i.e. a way in which heterosexual men express their hatred of homosexuals. During forcible oral or anal intercourse, they curse their victims and call them names. In some jurisdictions, this kind of violence is recognized as a “hate crime”. Such hate crimes include all forms of assault, and a small fraction of it is sexual assault. When rape is used as
a form of torture of captured enemies, the same pattern can be found. The torturers also mock their victims during the assault and sometimes even use females as assistants or witnesses in order to increase the humiliation. Apart from such extreme and rare cases, the rape of males occurs more regularly
in prison settings where stronger inmates overpower younger and weaker ones. Not infrequently, such situations escalate into
gang rapes. However, most male rapes take place outside of prison walls.

Hate Crimes in Canada 2001 and 2002
(Victim categories listed in percent) Canada has defined “hate crimes” as offenses "motivated by bias, prejudice or hate based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or any other similar factor." As the above police statistics show, non-Christian religions (Judaism and Islam) as well as non-white races (black, Asian origin) are the main objects of hate. Homosexuality, motivating 9% of the offenses, is also a significant factor: “Individuals targeted because of their sexual orientation were more likely than other groups to suffer violent crimes, including assault.” However, sexual assault occurs only in a few of these cases.
